De eerste twee vrije trainingen op het circuit van Losail waren niet echt succesvol voor Romano Fenati. De Italiaan had problemen met de setup en kwam niet verder dan een 17de tijd, 2.141 seconden achter Louis Salom die de snelste tijd noteerde op zijn KTM. Bagnaia finishte achteraan in het veld, maar dat had vooral te maken met ervaring.
