Romano pakt overwinning in Aragon na een magistrale comeback. Na 20 spannende rondes op het prachtige motorland daar waar Fenny maar liefst 19 posities had goed gemaakt na een mindere start was er eindelijk nog eens glorie voor de Italiaan en zijn Sky Racing Team by VR46.
De weersomstandigheden zondag waren niet om naar huis te schrijven en hadden zich ten opzichte van de vrijdag en zaterdag grandioos gekeerd, in plaats van een mooie blauwe hemel waren er stevige mistbanken te zien, waardoor de warmup was vertraagd en later moest plaatsvinden, uiteindelijk gaf de baan commissaris groen licht en mochten de Moto3 rijders toch naar buiten om op een glad en nat wegdek een aantal rondjes te rijden. Het was een moeilijke situatie, want iedereen had zich toch iets anders voorgesteld in Aragon, ook voor Fenny was het even wennen, hij noteerde slechts een 22ste plaats.
De vertraging opgelopen in de ochtend had natuurlijk ook direct impact op het schema. Omdat alles in het teken staat van de MotoGP, daar waar de race altijd om 14:00 moet worden gereden in verband met de TV rechten, was er eerst sprake om de Moto3 race te verplaatsen na de MotoGP race, echter is er gekozen om toch in de ochtend te rijden, niet om 11 uur, maar om 11.25.
Voorafgaand was het al duidelijk dat het spannende Moto3 race zou gaan worden, die ook nog werd aangekondigd als “Wet Race”. Toch was het Romano die de Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón op zijn naam wist te schrijven en hiermee zijn vierde overwinning van het seizoen kon bijschrijven op zijn palmares. Iets waar iedereen rondom Fenny over had gedroomd werd werkelijkheid. Na 20 rondes hard te hebben gevochten, pakte Fenny maar liefst 19 plaatsen terug voor de finish waar hij als eerste de laatste bocht instuurde voor Alex Marquez en Denny Kent. Leider Jack Miller moest na een confrontatie met Alex Marquez en een harde crash de pit opzoeken en pakte geen punten. Met de volle 25 punten blijft Romano staan op een vijfde plaats in het klassement. Over 2 weken vliegt het MotoGP circus naar Japan, hopelijk kan Romano door ook weer meestrijden om het podium. ROMANO FENATI: “It was a difficult start with all the riders that, as usual, were fighting hard to get to the front. I lost many positions with the slick tires, as a few segments of the track were still then I started to push harder and harder setting my very pace, but when I got to the front, the tires were quite worn out. So I tried to remain in front without overdoing things and by playing all my cards until the very end. I am really happy with this result, one must never quit, and we clearly did not. I am very optimistic and I’ll try my best to get as much ahead as possible”.
